The 2021 competition has now ended

General Questions
NextGen10 is a nationwide competition, brought to you by HSBC, to help the brightest young minds in the UAE showcase their ideas on how to solve some of the many challenges we will be facing in the future. NextGen10 will provide a platform for young minds to help turn ideas into reality with mentoring, funding and a showcase at the UK Pavilion at EXPO 2020.
To be eligible to apply you must be a UAE resident throughout the duration of the project and be aged between 10-14 years old at the time of entry.
No, unfortunately entry is only open to UAE residents.
You can enter by following the below steps:
  • 1) Complete the entry form at nextgen10.ae
  • 2) Submit a one (1) minute video telling us about your idea
  • 3) Complete the insight survey
  • 4) Submit an idea as a written statement or drawing, using our Template
Yes, parental /guardian consent is needed to proceed in submitting your idea. You will find a dedicated section to be filled in by your parent/guardian as part of the first step of your submission.
There are 5 selected topics:
  • How can we stop climate change?
  • How can we make sure the creative arts aren’t lost?
  • How can technology help us?
  • How can we create a healthier and equal society?
  • How can we take ideas from the classroom to the boardroom?
All entries should fall under one of THESE TOPICS.
No, only one idea per person, addressing one of our selected topics. Multiple entries will not be accepted. First submission will be taken.
No, entries will be accepted from individuals only.
All entries must be in English.
No, it is free to submit an idea.
A panel of judges from HSBC and Industry experts will be judging the ideas across the year programme. All ideas will be presented to them anonymously in the initial stage prior to the semifinals. Thereafter individuals in the nextgen10 cohort will need to present personally (virtual or physical) through to the live final.
A panel of judges will be looking for applicants who are able to do the following:
  • 1)Be the most relevant to the topics listed
  • 2)Be able to show feasibility in turning the idea into real life, to make a difference in communities around the world
  • 3)Demonstrate the best presentation skills
  • 4) Clearly set out what actions need to be undertaken to bring the idea to life
  • 5)Provide innovative solutions
  • 6)Be original and not copied or in conflict with other existing ideas
  • 7)Be well-researched
Ten (10) finalists will be selected from fifty (50) shortlisted entrants.
Three (3) winners will be selected on the day of the finalist presentations as part of the UK Pavilion at Dubai EXPO 2020
The ten (10) finalists will receive the following:
  • 1)Access to mentoring with industry experts
  • 2)Training and accreditation for presentation skills, financial planning and debating
  • 3)Opportunity to present their winning initiative idea as part of the UK Pavilion at EXPO 2020
In addition to this, three (3) winners will be selected on the day of the finalist presentations to receive a cash prize of AED 20,000 each to develop their idea and learning
Yes, a parental/ guardian ticket will be provided to the finalist to enter the UK Pavilion.
The final deadline for all entry submissions will be on 30 April 2021 at 23:59 (UAE time). Applications submitted after this time will be void and not entered. You can explore the full Timeline here
Fifty (50) Semi-Finalists will be shortlisted and announced by the 23 May 2021
Finalists will be announced on 28 June 2021.
NextGen10 Live Final will be taking place at the UK Pavilion at EXPO 2020, on 7 December 2021 from 10.30am (date is subject to change according to the UK Pavilion programming)
